Greg Jackson, the current owner of Jackson’s Quality Meats, was born and bred in Armidale. He completed his schooling at Ben Venue Public School and The Armidale School (TAS). After he left school he finished a butcher’s apprenticeship with his father. After 6 years working as a butcher, Greg went on to become a truck driver and then worked as a book maker on the weekends. Greg also studied accountancy at TAFE in order to enhance his business and financial knowledge.
After time working as a sales representative and a purchaser, Greg was promoted to the role of General Manager at Westend Wholesalers. When part of Westend Wholesalers was sold off in 2008, Greg purchased the meat division of the business and Jackson’s Quality Meats opened.
Greg loves living in Armidale and enjoys each of the four seasons. He also likes meeting the different types of people who make up the Armidale community. He says ‘the university compliments the rural town perfectly.’ This diversity means Armidale has access to more facilities and events than most other country towns.
When Greg is not running his successful local business, he enjoys playing rugby and shooting. In particular he loves spending time with his family. Greg’s two kids, who are in years 10 and 12, have provided him with both some worries and great joy. His wife Jodie is a registered nurse, currently working at New England Girls School (NEGS) and the private hospital.
